Originally built in 1868 for the Reverend Thomas Ellwood, The Old Rectory is a relaxing and comfortable base from which to explore the whole of our beautiful Lake District. We pride ourselves on delivering you the highest levels of comfort to ensure your stay in Coniston will be something to remember.

Sink into one of the comfortable sofas in our lounge. We have lots of books and guides for you to read and a good selection of games to while away the evening. If it's fine you can relax and chat on the garden terrace with your aperitif. For those of you who enjoy fell walking there are several dozen recognised walks within as many miles. What more could you ask for.

Locally sourced Cumbrian fayre

In our conservatory dining room you can enjoy a traditional Cumbrian breakfast. Choose from our extensive buffet plus a full range of options from our cook-to-order menu. After a day spent exploring, sit down to an elegant four-course meal prepared each day from fresh local ingredients. Our bedrooms, all named after famous local influences such as Campbell, Ruskin and Ransome are the height of luxury and will afford you the perfect nights sleep.

All our rooms are en-suite, the superior rooms and the garden room having a bath with shower over and standard rooms a shower. All rooms have a digital colour Television, a DVD player, clock radio with CD player, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini-bar.
